My Work
I take that tech thing that’s been giving you headaches, or keeping you up at night, and untangle what’s tangled so it all runs smoothly.
Sometimes, that looks like fixing a broken site, whether by repairing what’s gone wonky or by replacing it with something that works.
Sometimes, it’s more like creating a new sales page, updating an outdated look, adding a mailing list signup, or even building a whole site from scratch.
And sometimes, it’s giving a helping hand to you while you build your own site–advising on the technical hiccups you can’t quite solve, or recommending particular ways of making the site do what you need it to.
I offer all of these services and more–for specifics, click the options below. And, if you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, please reach out to me–chances are I can help, and if I can’t, I’ll be open about that and give you some recommendations for where you can find what you’re looking for.
That said, if you’re looking for a social media manager, or someone to help you with SEO (Search Engine Optimization, a.k.a. making it to the first page of a Google search), I don’t do either of those things well enough to feel that I should be offering them as professional services. I can do some basics for SEO while building a site (largely, the pieces that overlap with best practices for accessibility) but you’d be better off seeking out someone who specializes in it if you’re really wanting to pursue that angle.
For anything else, read on!
Website Diagnosis and Repair
You’ve got a WordPress website, and something’s gone wrong – maybe suddenly, maybe a gradual accumulation of error messages or broken functionality.
Someone built it for you awhile ago and then disappeared, and then your neighbor’s kid tried to help you update it, or that person you were dating, and now… nothing works right.
Every time you look at your website, you wince.
You might be able to sort it yourself, but you don’t have the time. (Or the sanity points – we all run short on those these days.)
Or maybe just the thought of logging in to WordPress makes you realize you need to floss the cat, right now.
(We’ve noticed our clients’ cats have FANTASTIC dental health.)
Either way – I can help!
I’ll put the hood up and see what’s leaking or blowing black smoke, and if it’s a quick fix (which many times it is) I’ll fix it right then and there.
Diagnosis and quick fix – up to 30 minutes of work – is $95. If it’s all sorted in that time, yay!
If it’s not fixable that easily, I’ll report back to you on what it needs and how long we think that will take. You can opt to proceed or not – totally up to you.
Beyond that, it’s $40 per 15 minutes until I get it all humming instead of crunching. I only bill you for the time it actually takes, and I work quickly and efficiently.
Diagnosis and Repair of Other Tech Tools
Your website is only one part of making your business go, and sometimes, it can work fine, while something else goes wonky – your scheduler, your mailing list, even your email.
Sometimes it’s a little thing, and you can muddle through.
Sometimes it’s something you could fix, if you had the time or the energy.
And sometimes, you don’t want to, or you’re not sure exactly what the trouble is – or even how to find out.
Whatever the situation, I can help you.
I’ve worked with a variety of other services while building sites for clients, and know the common pitfalls and problems.
I’ll take a look at whatever’s giving you trouble, see what’s up, and if I can, fix it for you so you can continue serving your people with ease and comfort.
Here’s a short list of those services I’ve used or worked with on behalf of clients:
Acuity/Squarespace Scheduling
Calendly
Mailerlite
MailChimp
ActiveCampaign
Google Workspace
Yahoo! Mail
Outlook
Thunderbird
PayPal
Stripe
Click & Pledge
If you don’t see the service you need help with on the list, feel free to reach out anyway–many services, such as mailing list providers, have very similar functions, and while I may need a few extra minutes to get my bearings, I can often still help.
The process and pricing for fixing other tech pieces are the same as for my other offers: $95 for a 30-minute diagnosis (and fix, if we can manage it), then $40 for every 15 minutes thereafter, with a quote once the diagnosis is done to let you know what amount of time I think I’ll need.
Website Updates
Your site’s working fine, but it’s not quite what it needs to be. You need a sales page for a new offering, or your about page describes a you from ten years ago, or you just hate the colors these days. Maybe you’re concerned about accessibility, or whether your site looks good on mobile.
But… you don’t know where to start, and you don’t want to break anything.
Or you just don’t want to start, because every minute you spend trying to be a web designer is a minute you’re not doing what you love.
That’s where I come in.
You let me know what you need, and I’ll give you an estimate for how much time it’ll take. If you give me the green light, I’ll collect login information from you and get to work.
I charge $95 for the first 30 minutes of work, then $40 per 15 minutes until the work is done. I can get a lot done in 30-60 minutes, and I’ll only bill you for the amount of time I actually use.
Important Notes:
-These projects are scoped and conducted almost-entirely by email, and will require responses from you to proceed. I’ll need you to respond promptly when I need information from you in order to take the next step (this is especially true for 2-factor authentication codes).
-If there are styling changes to be made, I may conduct those changes over Zoom so we can take advantage of screen-sharing to make those changes and get feedback live.
-We can do a phone call if there’s simply no other option, but it’s only for emergencies, and it will have to be scheduled, which can take a few days.
Updates to Other Tech Tools
Maybe you’re launching a new course, and need to set up the times in your scheduler–or send automatic emails to those who sign up, or make sure people who can’t afford the full cost up-front have an installment option. Maybe you just need to adjust your availability, or split your mailing list into groups based on interests or location. Maybe you need to move from one service to another, and want to make sure you don’t lose all your information.
It’s not necessarily a big project, but it’s more than you want to tackle on your own.
I’ve got you.
Over the years, I’ve worked with various systems for scheduling, mailing lists, and payments–setting accounts up, moving from one to another, making small updates or bigger overhauls.
Here’s a short list of those my clients have used most:
Acuity/Squarespace Scheduling
Calendly
Mailerlite
MailChimp
ActiveCampaign
Google Workspace
Yahoo! Mail
Outlook
Thunderbird
PayPal
Stripe
Click & Pledge
Even if your system isn’t on this list, that doesn’t mean I can’t help–most of these systems have similar backends, and I can get used to a new interface relatively quickly. Reach out to me with your needs, and I’ll let you know whether or not I think I’d be a good fit.
Any project starts with listening to your concerns, coming up with a plan, and letting you know how much time I think it’ll take (and therefore, an estimated cost). My pricing is the same for all projects: $95 for the first 30 minutes of work, then $40 for every 15 minutes thereafter. I only charge for the time the project actually takes.
If this sounds like the help you’ve been looking for, let me know.
Important Notes:
-These projects are scoped and conducted almost-entirely by email, and will require responses from you to proceed. I’ll need you to respond promptly when I need information from you in order to take the next step (this is especially true for 2-factor authentication codes).
-If there are styling changes to be made, to mailing list signup forms, for instance, I may conduct those changes over Zoom so we can take advantage of screen-sharing to make those changes and get feedback live.
-We can do a phone call if there’s simply no other option, but it will have to be scheduled, which can take a few days.
Website Builds
You have a business, and you need a website.
Maybe you’ve been on social media so far, or growing through word-of-mouth, but people need to be able to find out more about you, in one easy spot.
It doesn’t need to be huge and fancy – just a good-looking way for people to connect with you and your work accurately and easily.
I can do that!
You bring the content and a vision, and I’ll bring the know-how to make it happen.
What this looks like:
A simple site (generally, one to five pages) on WordPress or Squarespace.
It’ll have copy and images you provide, a contact form, a mailing list sign-up form if you’d like one.
If needed, I’ll connect your scheduler or products.
I’ll use your preferred colors and fonts, and if you have a sense for the layout, I’ll get as close as I can to that, too.
If you don’t know what layout you want, and thinking about it makes your eyes cross, I can also build something I think flatters your content and refine it once you’ve seen it.
What you’ll provide:
– Completed copy for the page – this is the hardest part for most people, so I’ve learned that I need to not start work until you have ALL your copy. You can always edit as you go, but you must have all copy written for us to begin the project.
– Images – generally, as a minimum, I recommend a horizontal rectangular image, as big as you can get it, and one that is a photo of you.
– Preferred colors and fonts, if you have them.
– A sense of what you want the site to do and what you’d like it to look like.
– A domain name (the www.something.com part) and hosting (where that .com part lives.) The domain name should already be registered to you, and you should have a hosting account with a hosting provider (if you’re going with Squarespace, this will be Squarespace). If you want a WordPress site and aren’t sure which hosting provider to use, I generally recommend www.siteground.com.
If all of this is confusing to you, let’s talk. I can help you out.
Pricing:
Pricing varies based on which platform you’re using and how much you include.
I use the same basic rate schedule as our other projects – around $160/hr – and I’ll always get the work done as fast as I can while still doing excellent work.
For a Squarespace site with copy, images, a contact form, and a mailing list form, it could take as few as two hours to complete.
For a WordPress site, due to the more complex nature of the platform and styling, I estimate a minimum of 3-4 hours.
The Process:
You contact me, let me know what you need and want in a site, and I’ll let you know what my estimate is for time and cost.
If you decide to proceed with me, I’ll take a 50% non-refundable deposit on the work and get all the info I need to connect to your hosting account.
You’ll need to be ready to send over all copy and images, and be able to respond to questions and give feedback quickly.
When the initial build is done and the site is ready for your review, we’ll schedule a live, screen-shared Zoom call to go over the styling of the site.
I’ll have you take another look at it and confirm that everything’s as you want it; once you confirm, the project will be considered complete, I’ll bill the balance, and you can go on to do great things with your business!
If you’ve read this far, and this sounds like a good option for you, be in touch!
Important Notes:
– With any website, there will be ongoing costs (monthly and/or yearly) that you need to make sure you are ready for. I will go over these with you and make sure you know what they are.
With WordPress, there will also be ongoing maintenance that needs to be done anywhere from monthly to quarterly, much like cars require refueling and periodic oil changes to stay in good working condition.
Some of this can be automated, but probably not all of it, so I’ll talk you through how to do this maintenance (or you can arrange with me to do it for you.)
-These projects happen almost entirely by email, and will require responses from you to proceed.
I’ll need you to respond promptly when I need something from you in order to move forward, and sometimes that can mean almost-immediate response (login codes that expire in 5 minutes, for example.)
-If there are styling changes to be made, we will work live over Zoom.
That allows you to see the site, say what changes you want, have me make those changes right then, and have you approve the changes.
It’s the fastest, easiest, and most accurate method I’ve found so far.
-We can do a phone call for some of this, but I prefer to do that only if there’s no other option, and it will have to be scheduled, which can take a few days.
Builds for Other Tech Tools
You’ve known you need a mailing list for a while now, but somehow, it never seems to be the right time.
Mostly because when you think about making one, you suddenly discover you need to winterize the electric toothbrush.
Or you want to be able to have clients schedule themselves, but you don’t know which app to use and figuring it out feels totally overwhelming.
Or maybe you’ve been struggling with your current payment processor/mailing list service/scheduler, but moving to a new one should wait until you have more time… until after the holidays, or the start of the school year, or that next big project. Or winterizing your toothbrush.
If this sounds familiar, I’d like to offer you another option–reach out to me.
I’ve set up plenty of these systems before, and once you tell me what you need set up and how you need it to work, I can make it happen.
And once it’s set up, I can even show you how to use it, if you’d like (I can also do this if you already have an account and just want to know how to use it).
If you’re not sure which service will do just what you’re looking for, I can probably let you know–I have experience with several, and know the limitations of more.
Here’s a short list of the services I’ve worked with on behalf of my clients in the past:
Acuity/Squarespace Scheduling (scheduler)
Calendly (scheduler)
Mailerlite (mailing list service)
MailChimp (mailing list service)
ActiveCampaign (mailing list service)
Google Workspace (email and document storage service)
Yahoo! Mail (email service)
Outlook (email service)
PayPal (payment processor)
Stripe (payment processor)
Click & Pledge (payment processor)
If you want to use a particular service not on the list, I may still be able to help–most of these systems have similar settings and options, and I can get used to a new layout of those options relatively quickly. Let me know what you’re thinking, and I’ll let you know whether or not I’d be a good fit.
When you contact me, I’ll ask for a description of what you’re looking for, then come up with a plan and a quote for the time and cost of the project.
My pricing is the same for everything I do: $95 for the first 30 minutes of work, then $40 for every 15 minutes thereafter. I only charge for the time the project actually takes and I work quickly and efficiently.
If this sounds like exactly what you’ve been hoping for, let me know! I’d be glad to help.
Important Notes:
– I work 8-ish-to-5-ish in Arizona Time (Pacific/Mountain time zone, depending on season), mostly Mon-Fri and sometimes on Saturdays. I’ll respond as quickly as I genuinely can in those times, but I’m not a Batphone-equipped shop, so if you have an emergency and want 24/7 service, I’m not your huckleberry.
– These projects happen almost-entirely by email, and will require responses from you to proceed.
I need you to be able to describe your needs as best you can in writing, and respond promptly when I need information from you in order to proceed.
We can do a call if there’s simply no other option but it’s only for emergencies, and it will have to be scheduled, which can take a few days.
-For certain portions of the project, such as adding a bank account to your payment processor, I’ll ask you to enter information or complete a step yourself for security and confidentiality reasons.
I will, however, provide you as much guidance as I can for the process, up to and including a Zoom session with screen-sharing if requested.
Tech Guidance
You’ve decided to roll up your sleeves and build your own site on WordPress or Squarespace–maybe because you have to, maybe because you want to–but building websites isn’t really what you do. You’re good at finding what you need on YouTube or Google, and you’re a quick learner, so you’re pretty sure you can do it.
But there’s that question in the back of your mind about what happens if you run into something outside your comfort zone.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a professional in your back pocket, just an email away, who can walk you through the sticky part and get you moving again?
Now you can.
If you run into that sticky situation, or something you’re just not comfortable tackling all by yourself, reach out to me, and we’ll schedule a Zoom call, likely 30 minutes to 60 minutes in length. Using screen-sharing, I’ll guide you through the part of your process that’s bothering you and answer any questions you might have. The whole session will also be recorded and sent to you afterward, so you can refer back to it at any point.
My pricing for this type of support is the same as for any other type–30 minutes for $95, and past that, $40 for every 15 minutes. I only bill you for the length of the call.
If this sounds like you, let me know. Or, if you haven’t run into challenges yet, feel free to simply bookmark this page and reach out if you need me.
